The door clicked shut as Amy closed the door to her room, Rheya already moving to her bedroom as the younger vampire slid her shoes off.
âYou did wonderful today, my darling,â Rheya purred. A sight to behold, as expected of the Mother of Vampires, fully naked and drenched in blood. Amy merely spared an empty glance at the former priestess, before proceeding to shed off her blood-soaked clothes and wash it off in the bathroom.
Amy felt a hand tugging on her wrist but didnât bother to respond to the touch. She didnât feel like communicating with the world in general.
So she decided to send her words through her powers, a small whisper in Rheyaâs mind. What is it?
âIs there something wrong, my dear?â Rheya might look and sound worried for her, but Amy knew she was nothing more than a woman who was isolated for over 3000 years and needed to understand how the current world runs.
She might have lost her betrothed long ago, and Amy is the descendant of her own daughter, but nothing could compare to the loss that now wrecked inside her vulnerable, vampire body. A large wound scored across her chest, Amy couldnât tap on her well of emotions at the moment.
How did she felt? Sadness. Devastation. Hopelessness. An ale tankardâs worth of anger and rage. A whole universeâs worth of emptiness that could not be healed and filled up again.
Amy slowly eased Rheyaâs hand off her wrist and gave an empty look to the naked woman on her bed, sending words through that bridge formed between them. I would like some time alone if you donât mind. I need to clear my head.
Understanding filled Rheyaâs eyes, and Amy tried her best to push past the guttered look in her predator-bright eyes. âAs you wish, dear. I will be at my mansion if you need me.â
The amber-haired woman didnât send words through her powers, instead ducking into her bathroom and braced her arms against the sink. When she raised her head to see her reflection in her mirror, she ran her red eyes over her face. Despite being nocturnal, the dark circles under her eyes werenât doing it any justice, and her eyebrows just felt so heavy to even raise them.
Her amber coloured, messy half up-do was slightly unkempt and soaked with blood, along with the lower half of her face and nearly her whole body. As much as it smells more alluring than any wine, Amy felt like she wanted to puke right now. She needed to get all this blood off of her body, stat.
Then, she sawâthought she saw her reflection warp. Her hair was now moon-white, with two smaller braids with different lengths, which reminded her of a dreamcatcherâs feathers, tied at the left side of her head starting from above the shell of her ear. There was a strong hint of red and purple eyeshadow around her eyes, which brought them out more due to her pale complexion. On top of that, there was a chain that ran across her face and hung onto her ears and a scar down her right eye and a cut on her lower lip.
Despite not smiling herself, Amyâs reflection grinned wickedly, causing Amyâs eyes to widen.
Please stop it now
She shook her head and reopened her eyes, seeing herself in the mirror again. Not wanting to âhallucinateâ any further, she picked up the pace and turned on the hot water and let it seep into her skin, into her hair that would wash away the coppery tang of the blood and the slight stickiness on her pale skin.
Out of nowhere, she felt somethingâor someone, lurking in the bathroom. A presence, not a physical body.
As the night makes me blind
You snuck in again
A ghost of sinister chuckling followed. Amy wanted to believe that it was just her bodyâs response to being drained of all emotions in a single night.Â
You lick around my ears while Iâm asleep, stare,
Then you scratch and laugh
Amy watched the red of the blood cloud the clear water on the floor. Watched the colours swirl together, no doubt making her stand in a red sea of some sorts.
She heard it again.
That sinister chuckling, and what felt like a finger tracing her jawline from her back.
She shouldnât be scared of it. That might be just amongst the chorus of voices in her head, lingering from the PTSD she had after she was killed. Noâit was different. It sounded like her own voice, laughing softly behind her back.
Your voice whispers endlessly
Oh youâre the bad dream kill
Amy decided to scrub harder at her skin. As if the extra effort could erase all the events that had happened prior to coming back home. But noâit couldnât. No matter how hard she scrubbed at her hair, her body, nothing could erase that beautiful face wrecked with sadness and devastation from her mind.
Those swirl of emotions couldnât move past each other so Amy couldnât remember who that painstakingly beautiful woman was. Her nameâŚ
Her name.
She felt her pent up anger building up and immediately clenched her fists tight and shut her eyes closed with that same pressure.
Deep breaths, Amy. Deep breaths. Itâs okay, youâre going to beâ
ââŚno, Iâm not fineâŚâ Her words were near guttural, feeling the pricking of her fangs on her lower lip.Â
She felt something thicker than water trickling down her fingers, and that familiar coppery tangy scent filled the room. The skin at her nails knitted themselves back together, and the water washed the blood away as nothing happened.
Amy needed to get out of her apartment, stat.
You keep possessing and calling me
To come to where you are, yes to come to you
Stepping out of her immensely suffocating bathroom, Amy was relieved to notice Rheyaâs absence, better without a powerful ancestor in her apartment, more specifically in her bedroom. Sliding open her wardrobe doors, she picked out a full monochrome ensemble; a dark grey turtleneck sweater, a black leather jacket, black skinny jeans and a pair of black vans.Â
Once she was satisfied, Amy took a deep breath and stepped out of her windows, silent and unseen, leaping into the silent night.
You say you know me? (I donât think so)
Who are you to snuggle in (I donât think so)
You cover my eyes (I donât think so)
You cover up the truths (I donât think so)
It was definitely a hindrance when she awoke from the dead for barely a week and she had to race against two other experienced vampires by leaping from building to building, but now that it was becoming part of her daily routine, she became better at it. Using the momentum, she did flips between buildings and all sorts of stunts to get the energy out of her system.
Finding herself in the familiar path, Amy decided to head towards the building her heart desired. Not her mind. It definitely wasnât in the right state to bear all of the pain she was going to feel once she reached. Donât even mention her heart. Such a versatile organ but yet something so fragile.
Deciding that it wasnât the best decision to break into the CEOâs office (yet), Amy landed to a stop on the rooftop of the Ahmanet Financial Building. The last time she was here, it was where she had taken the initiative to kiss that woman first. That woman, who was a tough shell to crack.
She who had decided to let her in of her own accord.
SheâŚ
Amy reached into her mind, struggling past the jumble of emotions and thoughts in her mind which was preventing her from thinking straight and have clearer thoughtsâ
Let go of the empty dreams (I donât think so)
Donât make me spit out the poison (I donât think so)
Youâll never have me again (I donât think so)
Shut up and go away
A wave of agony crashed into her head with turbulence. It seemed that whenever she tried to remember her name, all that would come out would be a headache, or worse, migraines. She had been lost in her emotions that she couldnât remember who her significant other was.
Yes. She had been her lover. The love of her life. The one who had that tough eggshell to crack and finally let her in. The only human sheâd ever accepted back then.
âAdrian finds solace in the company of others. I find it in solitude.â
Amyâs eyes drifted to the pool next to her.
âSwimming here alone, under the starsâŚit brings me peace.â
âBut you invited me up here,â Amy pointed out.
Kamilah looked at the young woman pointedly, âSo I did.â
Thousand nights, I repeated so many times
A vicious cycle of nightmares, Iâll end it now
As Amy stripped out of her clothes, she heard her own voice drift to her vampiric ears, with a heightened sense of hearing.
âHey, AmyâŚâ
The turned-off exit light
Get away from me now
The water lapped at her arms as she slowly sunk into the depths of the pool. She allowed the cool and calming waters to seep into her skin, the lazy waves of her amber hair. If only the memories could wash away just like the water does to Amy.
She knew she couldnât turn back time. But her, with so much power, she should have that power to turn back time. Back to the first generation of Bloodkeepers, and end them. So that none of this would happen.
But yetâŚ
Iâm sick of it
âYou try so hard to play the big, bad villain. But your heartâs never been in it, has it?â
Ha! Itâs enough
All the gibberish on my ear Imma let it blow
She felt a hand on her bare shoulder, as if her own self was just right next to her ear, deftly speaking those words.
âPeople have hurt you, havenât they? They didnât believe in you⌠They didnât trust you⌠didnât need you⌠left you.â
Amy swivelled her head to hiss and bare her fangs, but only stopped to find the reflection of herself that she saw in the bathroom mirror smirking wickedly at herself.
My five senses are focused on it, on edge
You come in and stir it up recklessly
âBut did you ever stop to think⌠â Dark-Amy tapped her chin thoughtfully. ââŚmaybe theyâre not the problem?â
Sure, it was her fault. Her fault that Rheya had returned because of everything that had happened with Gaius. Her fault that she had to be Turned because she was so important to a vampire who had loved and lost so much that she couldnât bear to lose Amy. Her fault that she had to be a Bloodkeeper and that only amplified her powers after she became a vampireâ
Amy riled for a punch at her alternate self. âStopâŚstop it!â
Her reflection rippled as Amyâs fist passed through, leaving a gaping hole through her chest, but the image shifted, stitching herself back together.Â
Dark-Amy mused. âWhoa! I didnât know that this would get a rise out of you, but stillâŚâ
Amy pulled back her hand, sinking further back into the water. âWhen Serafine told me that there was a darkness in me⌠it was you, wasnât it?â
âIâm surprised that it took this long for you to find out, Amy,â Dark-Amy examined her midnight-black fingernails, clicking her tongue. âI guess now that weâre vampires, everything seems clearer, doesnât it?â
When I fall asleep with one eye open
You permeate without a sound, the phantom
Amy rolled her eyes, crossing her arms and eyed her alternate form. âWhat do you want from me?â
âWhile you tried to keep me low, Iâve obviously heard what you told Rheya and everything that had happened prior to us coming back to the apartment complex. I was just having my fun at the opera house when you and your doing-good decided to ruin the party.â
Amy only winced in return, then muttered, âI⌠I donât wanna talk about it.â
Shadows curling around her body in tendrils, whisking away into the late night, Dark-Amy perched on top of one of the sun-tanning chairs along the edge of the pool and crossed her legs. âYou just keep running away from reality, donât you?â She sighed.
âThereâs already one Rheya,â Amy grumbled. âWe donât need another one in New York City.â
Iâm so sick and tired of it
When the light turns on, I hope youâre gone
âYou, however,â Dark-Amy jutted a finger at Amyâs chest. âAre different from her. Because you are a do-gooder.â
âButââ
âDonât you dare âbutâ me, Ashryver,â Amy could see her dark selfâs different coloured eyes; white on the right and the same cerulean blue of her own on the left. âWeâre 23 years old and that beautiful hag is 3 centuries older than you. Of course youâweâcan make a difference.â
You say itâs for me? (I donât think so)
Who are you to snuggle in (I donât think so)
Permeating deeply (I donât think so)
Iâm confused (I donât think so)
âHow?â Amy questioned.
Dark-Amy rolled her eyes and crossed her arms, huffing. âDo I really need to tell you, Ames? You have to accept me in order to keep moving on.â
The darkness. That was what she meant.
Amy swallowed past the lump that was formed in her throat. She knew what would happen if sheâd succumb to the darkness that was lying dormant inside of her. That woman had told her of the countless horrors that she had to undergo because of the darkness that blinded her and soaked her in the blood which could metaphorically not be washed away.
What would happen to her if she were to do the same? Would she be the same person the others had seen her before Rheya came along and manipulated them at her whims?
âI just donât know if Iâm capable enough to do so,â Amy shrugged. She disappeared beneath the shimmering surface and reappeared a few metres away from the edge where she was sitting at with Dark-Amy. She slicked back her hair with a hand. âAfter all, Iâm pretty much a baby still in vampire years. Most of my heart is still human.â
Take whatever (I donât think so)
Donât even be seen (I donât think so)
Youâll never have me again (I donât think so)
Stop your obsession
The shadows curling around Dark-Amyâs body twisted and receded, somehow as if in amusement. She stood up from her seat and walked across the surface of the water, before dropping to sit with her legs underneath her.
âYou doubt yourself too much,â she scoffed, cracking her white coloured eye open. âI bet you hadnât review what amazing shit you did in this past year after dragging yourself into this rabbit hole.â
Amy and the others had found the truth of who was behind the increase of Feral attacks last summer. She and the crew managed to beat the shit out of Gaius into the new Tree of Eternal Life. And also defeated a rogue group of vampires who were terrorizing both humans and vampires alike.
That was indeed a lot that she had managed to accomplish in almost a year, but itâŚdidnât feel enough to feel like it was a big deal.
Dark-Amy raised her hands in defence. âIâm not as bad as you would portray me to be, Iâm not all those power-hungry bitches like a certain old hag we know. Iâm part of you, which means your do-good would influence what I do as well.â
Thousand nights, I repeated so many times
A vicious cycle of nightmares, Iâll end it now
Amy chuckled softly, eyeing her duplicate. âReally?â
She groaned. âSpare me from the doing-good part please, it doesnât go well with my personality and fashion choice, talk about resume too.â
âLike I will, youâre pretty unwilling.â
Dark-Amyâs lip ring glistened under the moonlight, small chains dangling from the rings. âWhy did Adrian even hire you as his assistant where you could be a comedian like that comedian-turned-scriptwriterâŚwhat was his name again?â
Amy rolled her eyes in amusement. âSeth Levine?â
âAh, yes,â Dark-Amy said. âBut you get what I mean.â
The light version of herself looked away and stared at the horizon beyond these tall city buildings of New York. Of what it could be if everything was resolved. If everyone wasnât under Rheyaâs control, and most importantly, in her advantage.
âButâŚâ Amy contemplated. âIt feels like itâs a lot to take in. Iâve never let the darkness take over me like that. Iâve already heard countless stories of other people sharing to me their experiences. Makes my skin crawl.â
Dark-Amy laughed gruffly, before ruffling the top of Amyâs wet hair. âYouâre just making excuses.â
The turned-off exit light
Get away from me now
Amy chuckled softly, a small smile tugging at the end of her lips. âYou really arenât that evil, a broody duplicate of me, huh?â
The white-haired woman mimicked barfing, smacking Amyâs bare back. âPlease donât. And also can you please get back into your clothes? Youâre gonna catch a cold and weâre gonna be one step behind in trying to stop Rheya.â
After much convincing, Amy was dried off with one of the towels lying behind the bar and back into her dry clothes and standing next to her supposed âevilâ doppelganger. Both of them stared down at the New York City nightlife.Â
âSo youâve been lying in all of the Bloodkeepers of all of my ancestors?â
âPretty much,â Dark-Amy had her arms dangling over the railings. âI would only be awakened if any of them happened to be Turned into vampires, which in that case, didnât happen until you. Youâre the first Bloodkeeper to be Turned.â
âThatâs why when my blood and hers fusedâŚâ
âYou became Rheyaâs equal,â Dark-Amy finished her sentence. âThatâs why she wanted you specifically out of your quintet. She keeps saying youâre special, itâs because youâre her equal.â
That darkness. The one standing right next to her, it also blinded Rheya and thus straying her from the path to justice when she had claimed that she didnât want to rule as a Goddess over Mydiea just as how the late King Kaelisus did. In the end, she still did, until her demise in what would be formally known as the Tomb of the First.
âIf you accept me,â Dark-Amy said, still looking down at the streets. âYour mind will be cleared and youâll be able to remember things⌠the people whom you deeply care for.â
That beautiful woman crossed her mind again. But without a headache this time.
Amy turned to face Dark-Amy squarely with resolution. Without hesitation.
âAlright, Iâll accept you.â
âGood, then take my hand.â
The shadows coiling and shifting around her arm seemed to grow stronger as Amy reached her hand forward. âRemember, relax as I merge myself with you. If you happen to hesitate or lose focus, I would only feed on your fear, anger and⌠you know the consequences already.â
Amy didnât need her to mention it twice. Sheâd heard enough.
âAlright, then hang on tight, me.â
Blacken my heart,
Creepinâ dark night,
Staininâ my soul
When I open my eyes like yet Iâm still asleep,
Amy felt overwhelmed immediately as her darkness converged on her senses like a stampede, but there was a constant calm presence, probably from her doppelganger, soothing her nerves as the process took place.Â
She could feel the dark aura coiling around her limbs, her torso, its tendrils an anchor to hold her down. Then, the change came. She felt it; in the roots of her hair, the muscles in her body, and her five senses all returning, but clearer.
Amy was then brought to a white coloured space, with Dark-Amy on her opposite end, shadows curling in tendrils off her body as usual.Â
There were imagesâmemoriesâfloating around them. Her memories, all from the day where Amy had first met Adrian Raines for the job interview. And there was her first meeting⌠with what would be the former Council members, Lester Castellanos, and her.
Amy still couldnât bring herself to remember her name.
âYour emotions are still in the way of your memories,â Dark-Amyâs voice echoed, but yet she didnât speak verbally. âAllow me to resolve that for you.â
Amy closed her eyes and braced herself for the impending wave of darkness that came at her.
The sudden goosebumps and its clear traces,
And the names on the ground that are owned by no one
Call out, dance tonight
Say it what you like
She felt a dark presence worming into her head again, and a memory flashed before her eyes.
Amy was back in the conference room again, and she peered into the box that held two gifts from Adrian to his fellow Council members. She picked up the bejewelled scarab and faced toward the woman.
Then, the words just rolled off her tongue of familiarity.
âThis scarab is for Kamilah Sayeed.â
The image shifted again.
The times we were
Happy together, I know
They were in Kamilahâs apartment, with the former carrying Amy in her arms in a spin as they laughed happily. As they slowed down, they came together in a passionate kiss as Kamilah dipped her low, when Amy noticed the gleaming bands on each of their left ring fingers.
This wasnât a memory. This was a vision of the future.
I have to end them now
Forget everything yeah
God before she could even relish herself in the small moment of happiness, she was wrenched back to reality again.
As the blinding light receded, her first instinct was to reach her lower lip, where the cold metal of Dark-Amyâs lip ring laid pierced through her flesh. A hand through her hair confirmed that it was not her amber-coloured hair but moon-white instead. And her sleeves and pants definitely felt tighter than before. Must be the increase in muscle definition.
She also felt much looser than she was an hour ago. No more strained muscles, tight knots in her back. No more migraines and headaches.
It all happened in a blink, barely giving her any time to react.
As her hand reached out to catch a familiar ornate dagger which whirred towards her back.
Amyâs eyes sank into the intricate patterns of the metal hilt, as they disappeared into the silver blade. The ruby engraved on top of the hilt gleamed under the moonlight as she ran the cold, sharpened blade along her tongue, spinning on one heel to face the owner of the dagger.
Lavender, laced with cedarwood. That was what her scent was. She committed it to memory, ever since she was Turned. She took advantage of her heightened sense of smell to commit her belovedâs scent to memory. It was engraved in her mind.
âAmy?âÂ
You say you know me? (I donât think so)
Who are you to snuggle in (I donât think so)
You cover my eyes (I donât think so)
You cover up the truths (I donât think so)
Kamilah Sayeedâs hostile expression immediately morphed into that of wariness, disbelief and shock. âI heard a faint heartbeat from my office and footsteps as well. I thought it was an intruder, considering it being out in the open, but I didnât expect it to be you.â
Amy chuckled, tossing her now white hair behind her shoulder as she flicked her wrist where her hand held the dagger. It was as if her dark counterpart was taking the reins of her body. Since she trusted her from the conversation theyâve had and how tired she was, Amy trusted her to take over for a while.
âYou shouldnât be here, Kamilah,â sadness and fatigue filtered into her tone. âNot after what happened tonight.â
âIâm real, Amy. Iâm here.â
Let go of the empty dreams (I donât think so)
Donât make me spit out the poison (I donât think so)
Youâll never have me again (I donât think so)
Shut up and go away
Amy shook her head. âHow am I supposed to know that youâre being manipulated by her?â She lied. âHow am I supposed to know that you worship me more than you do to her?â
Kamilah Sayeed wasnât with her. She clearly saw and felt what happened at the opera house. Amy nearly puked while remembering the sea of crimson red which coated the seats and the stage and basicallyâŚeverywhere.
Even if she could still feel the long years of Kamilahâs life still wrapped around her.
Thousand nights, I repeated so many times
A vicious cycle of nightmares, Iâll end it now
Kamilah opened her arms. âThatâs for you to find out.â
The turned-off exit light
Get away from me now
âNo, no, no, no, noâŚâ Amy felt her chest starting to get tighter, her breath coming in short as she tried to stabilise herself. âNo⌠you arenât real. I saw what happened⌠I killed everyone, because⌠noâŚâ A growl escaped her throat as she struggled to fight back her tears.
Amy suddenly hated the way that sadness and pain, filled her hazel brown eyes. She should be the one feeling those. She was sure she didnât see things.
She was still hyperventilating, murmuring under her breath still as she hurriedly turned on her heel to leap off the rooftop, but a pair of strong arms managed to hold her in place.
There was that scent again. Intoxicating and inviting.
âGetâŚawayfrom me,â Amy resisted, growling through gritted teeth. âGetâŚaway from me!â
Kamilah still didnât let go as Amy thrashed harder this time, bellowing.
âLet me go!â
One night what I saw in the darkness
Was the strange shadow that chased me after
âAmy!â She heard her darkness calling out to her in her ears, ringing like church bells. âYou have to stop resisting. I already ran my aura over her, and sheâs here for good, not under Rheyaâs orders!â
No⌠I know how Rheya hides the fact that she manipulates people. Kamilah died right in front of my eyes. This⌠this isnât real, it must be a ruse to get me sabotaged.
âPlease, Amy, habibti,â Kamilah whispered softly into Amyâs hair. âI promise Iâm not here to hurt you. Please⌠â
âAmy, you have to listen to her. I already know that sheâs speaking the truth, now itâs just you who has to believe her.â
The turned-on exit light
Itâs me looking at myself in the mirror
Hot tears were already streaming down Amyâs cheeks as she thrashed and screamed in Kamilahâs arms, with the latterâs cheek pressed to the top of Amyâs head with her eyes closed.
As if she already knew that everything would be okay.
Get away from me
âGet away from me!â Amy screamed, her voice rasping with a choked sob. âPlease⌠I donât want to hurt you.â
âNonsense, you would never,â Kamilah said. âBecause you know who you care for, Amy Ashryver.â
Disappear
Her full name seemed to awaken her, as her screams and cries of protest slowly died down, sinking slowly into the older womanâs arms.
Get away from me
As she broke down completely into Kamilah Sayeedâs embrace.

Princess: Albert Kleinman x Diana Murphy
A Dear Evan Hansen Parent AU fic
Warnings: Drunk girl tries to seduce a character, brief mention of a car accident, questionable treat of a person with a disability- not slurs or abuse, just kind of falling into the whole pity mentality if you know what I mean
A/N: My first fic ever! For those that are new to my blog, Diana is Connorâs daughter, Albert/ Al is Jaredâs kid. I want to make this a short series, but donât expect anything soon!
W/C: 2,075
When Diana was 12, she told Al she wanted to be a princess. Al raised an eyebrow at the idea. âDiana, you know this isnât Disney, right?â Al argued.
âNo no no, not like a magic princess. I mean I want to marry into royalty, like the British Monarchy or something.â She explained âIf I marry into a family like that, I wouldnât have political responsibilities or anything, but I could use my influence to change the world for the better, yâknow?â
Al shook his head and exhaled deeply. âOkay, like what?â
âI dunno. Maybe start a few charities. Abolish shoulder-based dress code rules. Yâknow, small stuff like thatâ she replied nonchalantly.
Diana was full of spontaneous ideas like that. But the thing is, Diana was the kind of person that could make those ideas come to life.
Thatâs why Albert Kleinman was severely in love with Diana Murphy.
âAl, I swear you are the only person that would skip a high school football game to read The Hobbit.â
Al groaned. âDad, Iâm really close to the end. I really REALLY would appreciate it very much if you left me alone right now.â
ââŚScratch that. I know one other person. That person would be ME my senior year of high schoolâ he remarked. Al planted his face into his book. âHey bud, I wouldnât care if you didnât say last Wednesday that you were going with Diana Murphy. Did you cancel or-?â
âNo, but sheâll understand if I canât goâ Al snapped.
Jared sighed. âAl⌠is this for the reason I think it is-â
âNo! âŚSomewhat? Maybe?â Al closed the book and turned to look at Jared leaning against his door frame.
âAlbert Kleinman, you are not going to keep pining and doing nothing about how you feel. It has been since the summer before junior year-â he lectured.
âEnd of sophomore year, if you wanna be technical-â Al added, sliding his hands through his hazelnut locks.
âThatâs not better! It drives me and this whole family nuts. If Wiley wasnât in college heâd be pulling his hair out. And frankly-â Jared moved to sit on Alâs bed âIt kills me to see you so-so- I donât know, insecure about this? Because I know this seems like a huge conflict, but I promise you, itâs notâ he assured. Al looked up at the ceiling, as if he was searching for a reply up there.
âAl- youâre a smart kid. And you two are best friends. Even if she says no, you two have a strong enough bond to make things work out okay in the end. Just- donât let one challenge stand in the way of you being happy. Iâve let that happen before- believe me, itâs not a good idea.â Al breathed. His dad could be an asshole, but the worst part was that he was usually a correct asshole.
âWellâŚalright, Iâll go. Iâll text you when Iâm there and leaving and such. Also-uh...thanksâ Jared smiled and patted Al on the back.
As Jared left he shouted from the hall: âRemember, no matter what happens between you two donât piss off Mr. Murphy! I learned MANY times firsthand thatâs not a good idea!â
The marching band played the fight song. Some trombone was blasting much louder than they needed to be.
âOkay, Al, youâre the one with the musical brother, so⌠technically how good is our band?â Diana asked. Al shrugged, straining to avoid eye contact with her.
âTheyâre okay, but Wiley would probably say they were better when he was there. Iâd say they look less crowded without his ego on the field.â
Diana scoffed. âYouâre not wrong thereâŚâ she tapped him on the shoulder ââŚHey, you âight?â Al was first to turn his head towards her. Her honey-colored eyes shined under the lights, and her coffee brown locks framed her round face like a painting. Even worse: when Al realized how cold it was outside, he offered her an extra sweatshirt in his car. It was a little big, so Diana hid her hands in the sleeves. Fuck⌠sheâs fucking adorable fuck, Al thought to himself. Diana waved her hands in front of his face. âEarth to Al, we have lost the signal, I repeat, earth to Al!â she teased.
âHuh-uh sorry Diâ Al murmured.
Diana crossed her arms. âAl, whatâs up? Youâve been off all week. Not coming to my house at all, paying zero attention in English- I repeat, ENGLISH, you damn bookworm- nearly blowing through an intersection, and you always keep your eyes on the road-â
Diana was prepared to keep going but Al interjected: âOkay, okayâŚyou got me. Iâm- wellâŚâ he figured it was time to be honest âitâs- uh- you.â
She tilted her head. âMe? I donât understand.â
Alâs stomach turned. âWell, you know, its- I just- you know⌠itâs your ex.â He was kicking himself in his head at this point.
Diana tilted her head at an even stronger angle. âUmâŚwhat? I broke up with Layla months ago, and on good terms. She was going out of state and wanted to start fresh. How is that something to be worried about?â
âNonono! I mean⌠do you think youâre gonna start dating again?â Al asked, immediately regretting his decision âWaitno that sounds bad sorry Imean um-â he stammered.
Diana laughed dryly âOooh I see. You think I need someone to be a knight in shining armor? Come on Al, you know better than that.â
âThatâs not what I meant.â Al sighed. âI mean, I dunno, you seem like youâre interested in someone⌠maybe?â You are a garbage liar he criticized. He began to glare at his shoes, not wanting to say much.
âIs it that obvious?â Diana asked. Al immediately perked up his head. Diana sighed. âWell⌠you know Brenda Nox? She gestured to a brunette cheerleader waving her pom-poms. âShe..she does things to me.â Diana crooned, followed by burying her face in her hands.
Al smiled softly and patted her on the back. âItâs okay. Unrequited love sucksâŚâ Al swallowed harshly ââŚbut youâll make it work.â
âThanks AlâŚbut thatâs not all. See, thereâs another person I like tooâ She mumbled.
âWho?â Al questioned.
âI-I canât even say. Itâs really embarrassing, because I like them a lot, and I know they do too-â she confessed.  â-But I want to wait for them. Because I know they can say it. And frankly, I think they should, because they need to know that if they want somethingâŚwell, they should go for it.â
âCouldnât agree more. And I hope this person gets their act together.â Al declared, even though her words made his heart sink. Yet, even so, something about her words made Albert have a small, hopeful voice say two words in his head: Itâs you.
Al went into concessions to go to the bathroom. He thought he knew the terrain, it was his own high school, but that damn step down before he got to the bleachers always tripped him up- literally. He fell on his knee, catching the attention of a few girls from the visiting school.
âOhhh wowww are you okaaay?â one of them slurred. When they offered their hand to help him up, he could smell the beer from the ground. He decided to pass and get up himself. âAre you okaaay? You gotta be bllleediiing or somethiiinââ she supposed.
Al took a couple of in-place steps. He knew such a small fall couldnât affect his legs, but he had a habit of checking. The one girl that offered to pick him up still looked concerned and invested in Al for reasons he didnât understand. âOh! Iâm fine! I have prosthetics, see?â he lifted his pant leg, then turned to the bleachers.
âWoooah wait. Howâd-howâd that happeeen?â she asked, taking a wobbly step closer to him.
Great, he thought. Just try and make this quick. He inhaled and began. âI was in a car accident when I was 5. I was sitting behind the shotgun seat, and the crash impacted there the most. No one was sitting in front of me but the chair was thrown back and crushed my legs. Now if youâll excuse me I-â
âO-M-G that must have been aawfuuullll!â she squealed a little too loudly, making Al wince. âYou poooor thingâŚwell I gotta say-â she purred, taking a step towards Al. â-you still look preeetty tough to me.â The girl placed an arm on his bicep, causing him to freeze. She was obviously too intoxicated to put together a coherent thought, but he needed to get back to Diana. âSaaay if you feel like it, you aaand your prrreeetty blue eyes could maaaybe drivvve meee hooome, aaand-â
âYou know, youâre not supposed to have alcohol on school grounds. There are teachers swarming the place, so Iâd suggest you leave.â Al had never been more relieved. Diana was standing behind the girl, arms crossed.
The girl looked at Diana, then back to Al. She scoffed. âGuess Iâll leave you with your giiirlfriiiend.â she sang as she walked away. Al beamed at Diana. He saw her cheeks were pink, probably from the cold.
âCocoa?â Diana asked. Al gave her a cup. Her smile returned.
âCome on, weâre at 3rd quarter already. Weâre losing, but there might be a turn-around, you never know!â
The car ride home was silent, but Alâs mind was screaming. The incident with the girl left Al with a lot of questions. Was she jealous? Or was she just helping you as a friend? OrâŚboth? Frankly, Al didnât care anymore. At this point he didnât think he would get any answers to his questions.
âWoahâŚAl, roll down the windows!â Diana commanded.
Her words got him out of his own question-spiral, but they led to yet another question. âWhy the flying fuck would I do that?â he lashed out.
ââŚto look at the stars. Sorry, Al I didnât mean to annoy you. Gotta love a short attention spanâŚâ her voice trailed off.
Al felt his stomach drop to the lowest it had this evening. He was practically sinking in his seat. âNoâŚDiana youâre good. That one was on me.â He admitted.
Then, he got inspired.
âYou donât have to be home for another hour right?â Al asked.
âHour AND a half! I made a case to my dad and he cavedâ she beamed.
âOkay, weâre gonna make a detour thenâ he declared.
After fifteen minutes of Dianaâs nagging, they finally got there: the field where Alâs dad took him and his siblings as a kid to go stargazing. The best part is that he didnât even have to take the time to get out of the car. He let the sun roof down, and Dianaâs mouth immediately went agape. The black sky was littered with stars.
ââŚAl, you are really something, you know?â
âI mean...I guess I try.â Al took a deep breath. âDiana, thereâs- thereâs something I wanted to talk to you aboutâ he stammered. Somehow, in exhaustion and hope, he thought this was a good idea.
âOh jeez, did I do something? Look Al I know Iâm blunt but if you ever get offended by something I say you know you can always tell-â
Alâs face turned red âNononono you didnât do anything wrong, I just-â
âAl if itâs about the girl earlier, you looked like you needed help.â he was now highly confused. ââŚIt wasnât me trying to be a knight in shining armor or pity you, I was just acting like I do- yâknow, trying to help others when actually-â
âYouâre really something else.â Al whispered, his face becoming much closer to hers than it was before.â
âWhatâŚwhat are youâŚâ Diana tried to speak, but she was soon interrupted by Alâs lips slamming fiercely into hers. Al thought Diana tasted vaguely like cherry chapstick, but mostly hot chocolate, and he figured she thought the same. That was the last thought he had before succumbing to full bliss. Alâs hands were shaky, but they eventually found their way to Dianaâs waist. Diana ruffled her fingertips through Alâs messy locks. He didnât even feel this. He also didnât feel his face burning up at her touch, or any other sensation. All Al felt in that moment was Dianaâs lips pressing into his.
Al had never kissed a princess before. But once Diana left his car that night, after a silent-but-content drive home, he never wanted to stop.

warnings: toddler giraffe sanha and embarrassing teacher names
"Sanha you take that back right now!"
Sanha stuck his tongue out at Eunwoo and continued to jump on the couches while chanting, "I love Mommy better than Daddy!"
"You little piece of shi-"
"Eunwoo! We're going to be late! Also, no cussing in this house!" you rushed into the kitchen with a blazer on, hair tied back, and your dress shoes halfway on your foot.
He sighed in defeat and grabbed his car keys not before so obviously checking you out. "You look amazing babe," he genuinely complimented and kissed your forehead cutely. Your lips curled up as you returned his kiss with a small peck on his lips.
"Ever since we got married, you look a million times better as a husband." you shyly remarked. Although you two were now grown adults who have fully matured, you still can't help but feel shy whenever Eunwoo praises you.
Your husband couldn't control his huge grin on his face for he kept on trying to bite his lip to stop it.
"And you look sexier as my wife," he threw you his cheeky wink that he never stopped using on you since high school.
Alarmed, you quickly covered his mouth with your hands. "Sanha might hear!" you hissed.
He rolled his eyes and took your hands off his face, "Before we literally made out on the kitchen counter while he was sleeping in the living room, and remember that time we-"
Blushing, you put Eunwoo into a headlock so you could silence his forbidden words. Whilst doing this, you called out Sanha's name to inform him that it was time to go.
He came running in with a monkey plushie wrapped around his neck and a striped t-shirt with ketchup stains on. Although only being in kindergarten, he was taller than most toddlers and was extremely playful.
"Sanha... are you sure about wearing that? It's your first day of school and people will think you're messy. Don't you wanna impress some of your classmates?" Eunwoo advised while looking him over judgmentally. You scoffed inside at how your husband treated Sanha like one of his best friends and had very normal conversations with him. One time you caught Eunwoo trying to make a bet with Sanha about which basketball team would win. Hilariously though, Sanha ended up winning and Eunwoo owed him an unlimited amount of bedtime stories and a dog in the future.
Sanha crossed his short arms over his chest, "Well Mommy told me that the first day she met you, you-"
"Okay, time to go!" Eunwoo started clapping his hands and held the door open for you two.
You looked down to your adorable and tall son and ruffled his hair. His wide brown eyes greatly resembled a beagle which you absolutely adored. Although it was vain, you truly felt that your son was the cutest kid in the world. He clung onto your arm as you two exited the house and headed to the garage. As you all stepped into the car and buckled your seat belts, you asked your son if he was nervous for his first day
"Nope."
"You'll probably miss us by a lot~" Eunwoo teased while helping Sanha who was struggling at buckling his seatbelt in.
"I'll miss mommy, not you though."
Shooting him a glare, your solemn husband started up the engine while murmuring swears under his breath. You laughed at the scene, "Sanha, apologize to your dad."
"Sorry daddy..." he regretfully mumbles while looking down shamefully.
"Yeah you better be sorr-"
You jabbed Eunwoo's shoulder and he winced in pain.
"Fine... I accept your apology."
Sometimes it felt like you were raising two children-waitno- monkeys. They would be constantly bickering and roasting eachother but after calling eachother rascals you would find them playing together with action figures and cuddling while watching a movie together. A love-hate relationship was a good term to call it, except the hate was all just jokingly playing around. A complicated/problematic couple was an even better term to call it.
When you all arrived at the kindergarten at last, you realized that it had been YOU who was nervous as hell. As a new parent, it was difficult trying to adapt to the new responsibilities and tasks. Since your son was finally going to school, anxiety was washing over your mind as you were worried about him not making friends, the teachers not liking him or you, misbehavior in class, all those sorts of things.
A reassuring hand clasped yours which snapped your mind back to the present. Eunwoo was staring at you with a calm weather swarming in his eyes. Through his eyes, he was telling you that it will be okay, everything is fine, and that you shouldn't worry.
You squeezed his hand back and offered a small smile. At times like this is when you loved Eunwoo the most. He saved your life from despair, from your toxic mother, horrible life, and basically everything you thought you could handle yourself. He showed you that it's okay to depend on someone for once. Although you couldn't do much for him but offer him your love, he was more than grateful for you to exist.
Your whole family (you still can't help but squirm in happiness at calling you three a FAMILY) exited the car and held hands with eachother. With Sanha in the middle, you never noticed how much he has actually grown.
"Sanha, you're so tall now!" you praised and pet his head.
"You're our mischievous giraffe," Eunwoo sang.
In the midst of walking across the parking lot, a group of ladies were suddenly rushing towards you three and crowding around in a circle.
"O-Oh my god... are you Cha Eunwoo?!"
"I love your songs so much can I get a picture?"
"Wow you're so much handsome in real life..."
"Oh my gosh you're sooo attractive!"
Eunwoo, who was startled, shyly smiled at the women. Sanha widened his eyes in frighten and clung onto your jacket closely.
Clearing your throat, you decided to take initiative. "Hi, I'm Eunwoo's wife and this is my son, and we're here for our child's first day at school. Of course you ladies are welcome to find us after school so we can take photos, but now we are busy."
They all were sort of taken aback but stepped backwards and let you all go. As your family continued to head to the classroom, Eunwoo couldn't help but beam.
"Honey, you're so amazing."
"Mommy that was so cool of you!" Sanha also praised while jumping up and down in excitement.
A pink blush crept up on your face but you only cleared your throat uncomfortably, "Of course. Family is first!"
The moment your family stepped into the classroom, a swarm of little heads came crowding around Sanha. Compared to the other children, Sanha was an actual giraffe. You gave Eunwoo a knowing look and he snorted.
"What's your name?" a girl loudly asked while everybody else examined him from head to toe.
"My name is Sanha!" your son proudly declared with no fear. It made your heart beam in joy at how social and confident he was.
"Why are you so tall?!" another boy with curly hair asked curiously.
"My dad told me I'm all because he stretched me out when I was born!"
Immediately, you turned your face to your husband with a horrified expression. Eunwoo couldn't help but burst into a fit of giggles and cover his face in humiliation.
"Wow... uh... that's cool!" the other kids all nodded their heads, not sure what to think about some father gripping a newborn's head and legs, stretching them out like a rubber band.
You smacked Eunwoo's chest and silently scolded him.
"Hi! You must be Sanha's parents!" a sweet voice exclaimed which made you and Eunwoo's head snap in their direction. A short and stout lady greeted you two and shook your hands politely. Her hair was short and curled, giving her the basic stereotypical teacher look.
"Nice to meet you, my name is Ms. Applebum."
A muffled giggle interrupted your conversation. The group of children were all clasping their hands over their mouths once they realized that they all failed to stifle a laugh.
You noticed that Eunwoo too was trying so hard not to snort at the teacher's name. The teacher, oblivious to how embarrassing her name was, simply just smiled at you two and guided you around the classroom.
"You two look so young! Are you newly weds?"
"Ah, thank you. We got married a year ago, actually." Eunwoo answered politely.
"Wow, you two sure are an attractive couple!"
You blushed uncontrollably and tried to hide your face behind Eunwoo's back. He giggled at how bashful you acted whenever somebody complimented how you two were "a pretty couple."
"Why thank you! You too look very young! Are you in your mid-thirties perhaps!"
Ms. Applebum couldn't resist blushing so hard and laughing in joy at his comment. She was overjoyed that a man that looked like he descended from the gods themselves complimented her.
"Ah, you're so sweet!" she shyly laughed and hid her face with her hands. You gave Eunwoo a suspicious look and he just merely shrugged at you in return.
As you and Eunwoo sat down on the carpet with Sanha curled up in your lap, the teacher read out classroom guidelines. Next to you two were other parents as well, paying close attention and trying to manage their wild children.
Sanha looked like he was about to fall asleep, the way his heavy eyelids continuously fell and how silent he grew. You pet his fluffy hair soothingly while listening to the teacher speak.
An elbow nudged your ribs suddenly and you gave your husband a deadly stare.
"What do you want?" you hissed.
"Nothing. I'm just bored LOLZ."
You rolled your eyes at how your husband, a GROWN MAN, literally spelled out "LOLZ." Whenever you talked to him, you felt like you were talking to the same Cha Eunwoo who flirted with you constantly in high school. Well, you technically were...
"Please shut up because Ms. Applebum is providing us with very vital information that we need to acquire in order to survive this whole school year of our five year old son being educated and making new friends," you spat in a low voice.
"But (Y/N)..." he whined and clung onto your sleeve.
"I will actually shove chopsticks up your-"
"Mr. and Mrs. Cha, would you two like to introduce to us your child, Sanha?"
You and Eunwoo exchanged alarmed glances and coughed violently.
"U-uh, yeah! So hi everybody, this is our son Sanha!" Eunwoo gestured towards the cute jumbled up giraffe that was knocked out in your lap.
Everybody flickered their eyes to the snoring mess who was now picking his nose in his sleep(????????????????)
You smacked his hand which caused him to whine in his sleep.
"Fuck truck..." he murmured and sneezed onto your shirt.
A silence filled the air as now everybody in the room had frozen, examining Sanha who was now snoring as loud as the A/C.
You blankly blinked at your cussing toddler who was still amazingly asleep. Ms. Applebum opened her mouth to say something but quickly shut it. Everybody was exchanging looks in the room, wondering if they were the only ones that heard it. Eunwoo was now covering his face with his hands, humiliated.
You crawled up in the passenger's seat, burying your face in Eunwoo's chest.
"Why can't everything just go perfectly..." you groaned and Eunwoo sighed in agreement while patting your back.
"Don't be so hard on yourself (Y/N)..."
You loudly sighed, "I can't help but feel like everything is my fault though. I'm responsibe."
Eunwoo stopped hugging you and pushed your body back so he could make eye contact with you. He squished your cheeks, "No... you did perfect as a mother. I'm proud of you because you're such a wonderful wife and mother, and you totally proved your own trash bag of a mother wrong. Compared to her, you're the best mother in the world, and I'm so fucking proud of you for that."
A tear quietly escaped your eye and your lips curled up. Tugging your husband by the collar, you meet his lips and kiss him passionately. After you let go, you ruffle his hair.
"You're a perfect husband too. I grade you as an A+."
He rolled his eyes at the reference. Then he gave you a deep stare which was filled with such intense weather and clouds. Stars danced around in the night sky romantically and clouds roamed around his pupils freely.
"I'm so lucky to have you as my wife, and Sanha as our child. I wouldn't have it any other way."
